One of our Traveling Nurses of Cirrus Medical Staffing recently shared with us a story about one of his many adventures on the road as a travel nurse.
"After working in the Emergency Department at various locations throughout the country, you start thinking you've seen everything! I thought so until he spent a night working in a region of the United States is considered "cowboy country". On this special night, a group of cowboys brought a friend with whom I had been playing poker overnight. The gentleman was very pale and obviously in shock. By the time he had started to become pale and lethargic, his friends reported they had noticed a considerable amount of blood throughout the patient's right foot. Although the patient had boots, blood seeps through the skin around the leg and ankle. When we cut the boot, we discovered what appeared to be knife lacerations around his leg and ankle. The cuts were sutured by the physician in the room emergencies and fluids administered to the patient. When asked what happened to his leg, the patient explained that he had bought the boots and were difficult place. When he, his ankle started itching. As a solution, it was decided to extend a long kitchen knife to scratch the ankle boot! Obviously, when he did, he lacerated his leg. I had no idea he had done until who had lost a considerable amount of blood! "
