what the hell happened to nicholas cage ? anyone else thinks that he has sold out ?
He used to do great movies and was my favorite actor
and let’s face it he’s not that good in action movies, his thing is drama.
he made some of the greatest drama movies like leaving las vegas, adaptation, the weather man and of course Lord of war, one of the best movies of all time…he was also very daring in his choices not caring about the money but about the quality of the movies…its like robert ebert said : ” There are often lists of the great living male movie stars: De Niro, Nicholson and Pacino, usually. How often do you see the name of Nicolas Cage? He should always be up there. He’s daring and fearless in his choice of roles, and unafraid to crawl out on a limb, saw it off and remain suspended in air. No one else can project inner trembling so effectively”
but lately he kept choosing only big-budget-action adventure movies and it’s just not his thing…he ever sucks at these movies…
anyone else thinks that ?
I don’t think he has sold out. That would imply that he needs or wants to money over just making films. Nic has always made strange, bizarre or interesting movie choices. And that what I like about him and his movies.
Gone in 60 Seconds I think might be his worst movie. Besides that, I like his performances in the following:
Valley Girl 1983
Racing With the Moon 1984
Birdy 1984
Peggy Sue Got Married 1986
Raising Arizona 1987
Moonstruck 1987
Wild at Heart 1990
Honeymoon in Vegas 1992
Amos and Andrew 1993
Trapped in Paradice 1994 (Yes, I liked this movie)
Leaving Las Vegas 1995
The Rock 1996
Con Air 1997
Bringing out the Dead 1999
Adaptation 2002
National Treasure 2004
World Trade Center 2006
Ghost Rider 2007
I have yet to see Lord of War. But when I saw Grindhouse, I laughed (I think I was the only one in the theatre who did laugh at all) when I saw Nic as Fu Manchu in the Werewolf Women of the SS trailer. The trailer itself was a hoot, but to see Nic in a bit role just for two seconds says that Nic loves movies. He loves being apart of them.
Nic isn’t selling out. He’s having fun. And he is in a position to do that.
