What are your best kept secrets for day trips, places to go, things to do etc in Orange County CA?
Just moved here! Please help.
OR ELSE
What sources have you found that give great ideas/info on things to do locally etc Things that are less tourist and obvious and more unique and different.
– eg occasionally I like to find drumming circles in the area, fly stunt kites on the beach, get lost in a unique used book store, join with others doing crafts, find hole in the wall music/poetry venues or many other art form activities. I’m active and love nature so, Bike trails???, nearby hike(walk) trips???
C’om people get creative.
Cheers! Jellybeanchick!
I don’t live down there, but here are my sources:
http://www.yelp.com is a great source for finding restaurants, bars, shops, and events. They have Taco Bell, hole in the wall vinyl record stores, and everything in between. If you sign up for an account, you can get a weekly email highlighting a few local favorites, generally on the quirky side.
Another good source for events is local newspapers. Even free ones that are stacked up in your neighborhood restaurants can have community calendars.
For outdoor activities, I have found books to be a good place to start. If you go to a bookstore in your area, they should have a variety of books in the travel section about local bike trails, hikes, etc. If you do a little digging on the internet, you might find a nice website, such as this one for my area: http://www.bahiker.com
