Residents of Charm City who move to other locations often find they are homesick for the same things. While there are ways to avoid this and you may be able to find certain things where ever you live, there are some things that are unique to Charm City living. The city is conveniently located. If you live anywhere in Maryland, but especially right in the center in the city, you are just a few hours from many exciting locations. You can drive two to three hours and be down the Ocean enjoying the boardwalk, a swim in the Atlantic Ocean or eating some Thrasher’s french fries. You can also head west in be in the mountains of the state. Within just a day’s drive, you are just as close to ski resorts, camping and hiking as you are to the ocean. You are also just a short distance from cities like Washington, D.C. and New York. In just a day, you can have a great afternoon trip without breaking the bank.
One of the main things former residents of Charm City miss are steamed crabs. While there are other places in the country you can get crabs, they are made in a unique way in this area of the country. Steamed with Old Bay seasoning is one of the best ways to prepare these rowdy crustaceans and the experience of eating crabs is more than just enjoying a meal. A crab feast is an even shared by family and friends. If you leave the city, you are going to miss this more than most of the other things on the list.
In addition to crabs, there are some other food items you may find you miss. Some of the brand name items sold in grocery stores in Charm City are not found anywhere else. Generic items too can be difficult to find. Snowballs are a popular Charm City treat and while shaved ice and snow cones are found during summer festivals across the country, they are made in a special way in roadside stands in Charm City. Pit beef sandwiches are an example of another roadside food not found anywhere else on the map. Make sure you feel up on these tasty treats before leaving so you can last until your next visit.
Charm city is a sports town and when you leave, you will miss the feeling of cheering on your favorite team. While it has been awhile since their baseball team has offered anything worth talking about, their football team does well season after season. In both cases, the stadiums in which these teams play are works of art, so be sure to enjoy your last trip to Camden Yards before heading out-of-town.
