Hiking Big Sur

Who has been to Big Sur, California?

I wanted to head there in late March. I’d be happy to have any information about the area. I’ll be on my own and the main thing I’m looking are reasonable accommodations. I haven’t been able to find much middle of the road stuff. Really fancy honeymoon type hotels or total dumps seem to be the online options.
Please share as much other info about your trip as you like; best hikes, restaurants, any nearby stuff to do (if there is any), etc.

Thanks

I would stay in Monterey, cheaper than staying in Carmel or Big Sur.

Nepenthe Restaurant is pricey, but good for lunch. Pfeiffer State Park is great for hiking, as is Andrew Molera Park. Sobrantes Point is a nice day hike, but a little hard to find. Look for the Garrapata State beach signs, and then walk up the shore side of the highway (not the water side) where the cars are parked in a turn-out.

Bring a rain jacket/windbreaker as the weather can be unpredictable in March.

And no, do not repost this in the Southern California section. That person doesn’t know what they are talking about.

Rocky Point Restaurant is also very nice for lunch, but not cheap.

Hiking in Monterey County – Big Sur, Carmel Valley, and more!
