Hiking Calories Burned Elevation

Hiking/climbing a mountain – calories burned?

I hiked Mt Washington in NH, a 6200 ft mountain. Covered 9 miles with an elevation gain of about 4000 feet. Took around 8 hours total.

I’m 24, female, 105 lbs.

Thanks!

4491 Calories. The daily standard ration of the US Army is 4500 calories for strenuous work. A climber gaining 5400 feet and covering 14 miles at 2 mph with 30 lbs pack is estimated to burn 4990 Calories. that is 1870 Basal metabolism, the rest hiking and chores and such. I think you may have done that much work. However in carefully controlled studies women athletes are shown to burn 5 to 10% less calories than men. So 90% of 4990 = 4491
