Meet fire teams
It’s 4 p.m. on a recent Wednesday afternoon. That means it’s time for the daily planning meeting at the Texas Forest Service command post in Merkel. About a dozen fire officials, representing all the different areas of command — finance, operations, meteorology, to name a few — gather around a conference table, trying to make a plan to tackle the wildfires currently burning across Texas.
