Hiking Denver Area

Where are the best places to hike around the Denver area?

I know it’s winter right now, but when summer comes around me and my boyfriend really want to get out and hike around. I’ve lived in Colorado pretty much my whole life, but I haven’t explored the trails too much without my dad.

I’m looking for trails like 30 – 45 minutes away from the Denver area for people in fairly good shape. You can put in trails for the beginning of the season and harder trails for when we get in better shape.

Thorough answers appreciated!!!

Denver sits at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, therefore; the majestic mountains will provide you with exceptional views as you hike in and around Denver.

A good idea is Flatiron #1 via the Chautauqua Trail about 40 minutes from Denver.

From Denver: Take I-25 North to Highway 36 towards Boulder. From Highway 36, take the Baseline Road exit and turn left. Take Baseline Road west past 9th street and Chautauqua Park is on the left hand side. Turn left into Chautauqua Park. Overflow parking is also available along Baseline Road, south of the park entrance.

Mallory Cave in Boulder’s front range is a short but steep hike to a large cave first discovered but not recorded, by loggers cutting down trees on Dinosaur Mountain.

Hogback Lollipop Loop: 2.9 miles Round-Trip
This short but steep trail climbs the east face of a shapely ‘Hogback’ – a sharp, rounded ridge with steep sloping sides – that frames the northwest border of Boulder.
