What would you do in this worst case senario with your dog?
Your hiking in the woods- miles away from civiazation; -you have a tent, food, water and some medic supplies. Like, a few large/small bandages, one wrap and neosporin.(However you spell that..)
Your dog falls off a rock and breaks his hind leg and gets a large gash in his middle. What would you do?
I’m trying to see what kind of medical supplies I would need if I went hiking with my dog and to see what to do in worst case’.
Supplies:
Cleaning cloths.
Medical bandages.
Gauze.
A towel.
Clean water.
A splint (newspaper, stick, stiff board).
You need to try and splint the leg (since you’ll probably be at least a good walk away from help). Your object is to immobilize the fracture, so you need to place the splint on your dog’s leg and use gauze and medical tape to fasten it. You need it done tight–but not so tight that you cut off circulation.
How to use the cleaning supplies are a given. You need to clean out any wound before splinting the leg. You need to watch out for signs of shock like rapid breathing or rapid heartbeat. If you can, use your cell phone to call 911 or your vet’s office. They should be able to guide you through the process over the phone until you can reach safety.
