Hiking In Maryland And Virginia

By admin

Where can I find the hiking difficulty for a particular stretch of the Appalachian Trail?

In about 2 weeks I will be hiking a short stretch of the A.T. with my grandma, who has wanted to see the trail her whole life. She’s pretty active and will have no problem with moderately paced hiking but, considering that she’s 80, I don’t want something ridiculously strenuous. I was hoping to hike north from Weverton Cliffs to Annapolis Rock (or possibly a little farther to the shelter near Cavetown, MD) over 3 days, 2 nights simply because I want to have at least one really incredible view for her. So I’d like to find out if this section is reasonable, or if anybody has any other suggestions for a really great, easier hike it would be much appreciated. The only caveat is that I’ll be coming from school in Columbus, OH so I would like to limit the drive to about 7 hours or less, so ideally the Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia area. Thanks!
