Looking for a retreat center in Missouri, Kansas, or Iowa?
I’d like to go on a solitary retreat for one or two days, preferably somewhere within a few hours’ driving distance of Kansas City. Does anyone know a good retreat center that stresses silence and solitude? I’m looking for something close to nature with hiking trails and places to sit and pray, not lots of activities and interaction with people. I’d prefer Christian sites, non-denominational if possible.
Sure… Jamesport, Missouri… (just 1hr 15min from the River in kC) An Amish Community (the larest in Missouri) and the clip clop of Amish buggies is most of the excitement during the week or the off season. The best place to stay is the Country Colonial Bed and Breakfast and although it is only a block away from the “4-way stop” it is a wonderful and relaxing get away. Great breakfast, gracious host and hostess and even a slow and relaxing cruise through the Amish country side in their horse (Clydesdale) drawn Carriage; maybe for the sunset ride and always finished up with some home made pie and ice cream.
A 6000 acre State Park is near by and has both walking trails and horseback trails as well as several lakes, deer abound with other wild life as well.
Try it you “will like it”
