Climbing in California?
I’ve never climbed a mountain but i love camping and hiking and i’d really love to climb mount whitney
im only 14 and like i said never climbed a mountain so mount whitney is too advanced for me
im looking for something to climb in any area of California somewhere around june
What should i except for my first time and any websites about climbing would help

Well don’t be surprised that you can climb Mt. Whitney, I did the first time when I was 11 in the boy scouts and just a few years ago at 51. Whitney is not as “technical” as some folks think it is. The trail can actually be hiked in a day most take 2-3 days. It’s most difficult part is the altitude and that’s about it.
For you start out by joining a group like the Boy Scouts they have groups your age that focus on climbing called venture troops and you will get trained and have the time of your life. Also the Sierra club has training for back packing. Many REI trips are planned throughout the year that you could sign up for, with a parent or guardian of course.
Southern California has many great local mountains to hike such as San Gorgonio, Mt Baldy, Mt. Baden-Powell, San Jacinto peak and others. Info and trail guides are plenty and available at any REI store.
