Hiking Mt Whitney Permit

Mt. Whitney?

I’d like to do Mt. Whitney with my bro this September. What’s the procedure for getting a permit to hike it? We’d do it in prob 3-4 days.

Thanks.

Mt. Whitney Hiker,

Everybody throughout the Mt. Whitney Zone must possess a valid wilderness permit year-round. Permits are issued only at the InterAgency Visitor Center, 1 mile south of Lone Pine, CA.

From May 1 to November 1, all use is regulated by limited entry quotas. Permits for the quota period may be reserved in advance. Most permits for Mt. Whitney are reserved during the Mt. Whitney Lottery, in February.

Click on the following link for more information about Inyo National Forest Wilderness Permits. (http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/inyo/recreation/wild/permitsres.shtml)

You may be out of luck for an overnight trip this September, but I’d stil recommend calling the Wilderness Permit Office for questions 8 am to 4:30 pm daily. ~Phone 760-873-2483.

Good Luck.

Driving to Lone Pine to pick up the Mount Whitney Permit
