What was this plant? How can I make the pain stop?

I was out hiking yesterday in a canyon in southern california. this area was recently burned and is now covered in 2-3 foot tall plants. I think is is a type of stinging nettle. As this was a military training event i was wearing boots and ACUs (long thick pants and long sleeves). when i walked through these plants it felt like hundres of microscopic needles went through my pants and imbedding into my legs and i just barely brushed the back of my hand on one. my fingers still feel like there are tiny needles imbedded in them and there are tons of little red bumps and my legs have these same little bumps… there is no itching but it burns. what could this plant be and how can I find relief?

Anti-itch drugs, usually in the form of creams containing antihistaminics or hydrocortisone, can provide relief from the symptoms of being stung by nettles. Many often ineffective folk remedies exist for treating the itching, including horsetail (Equisetopsida spp.), leaf of dock (Rumex spp.), Jewelweed, (Impatiens capensis and Impatiens pallida), mud, saliva, baking soda, calamine lotion, urine or soap and water. Some of these methods may provide some relief through mechanical stimulation such as rubbing or by cooling, or by the placebo effect.
