Hiking San Diego Dogs

I want to volunteer at an animal shelter in San Diego but…?

I want to find one that allows the volunteers to take the dogs out hiking/watch them at home on weekends. In my local shelter they do that, but I’m in a smaller town so that might have something to do with it.
I am 18 years of age, but I don’t want to foster (yet) because I’m afraid I’d get too attached to the dogs I’d foster.

You might be right about your smaller town making a difference in how things are done, but those of us who will see your note are not likely to know first hand the answer you seek about the San Diego shelters. I lived there about 12 years, but I don’t know the shelters.

Look them up and call them and ask.

You didn’t mention your age. Watching the dogs at your home on weekends is something that you’d have to first prove you are capable of dealing with the dogs FIRST before they’d let you have the dogs that far from the shelter. Taking them hiking is also something they’d need to have serious knowledge of your capabilities and qualifications before they’d consider allowing you to do that.

If you wish to volunteer, you need to understand the basic fact that you need to offer to do WHATEVER jobs THEY NEED you to do. You don’t get to cherry pick the best jobs to do as a NEW INEXPERIENCED volunteer! -!-
