First time travelers to Thailand

Thailand is a popular place for tourists to go for a holiday, many people have seen the post cards and heard great  reviews from friends on all the great stories and fun they had while in Thailand. In general the people are nice and are  always smiling. The mot popular things to do in Thailand is shopping, diving, beach hoping, nightlife and trekking  through the jungle. While many trvel agents want you to go to Phuket for beaches and Island or Chiang Mai for trekking,  there are even better places around without so many tourists or over developement.

Shopping, if you can try and stick to shopping around Bangkok or even Chiang Mai. Prices down in Phuket and other  Islands are usually much more expensive, a safe place in Bangkok would be MBK as they have almost everything you can  think of, might be a little more expensive that other places in Bangkok, but its just greta as its airconditioned and  you dont have to go ot so many different places to find the things you want.Chiang Mai is not so bad, they have some great handucrafts around, prices have gone up over the years but I find that  you can get much better qualiy handicrafts here and some really amazing peices also.

Beaches, while Phuket and Pattaya are very popular in Thailand, they are also the most overated too, there are much  better beaches like in Krabi, Koh Samet, Koh Chang, Trang and Hua Hin. Try and give these places ago as they are much  cleaner and not so crowded with people trying to sell you everything under the sun.

Trekking, while CHiang Mai is not so bad or even Khao Yai, there is a much better place to visit. Khao Sok national park  is in my mind the best place to see in Thailand at the moment. While popular for tourists, it is not over developed yet  and the Khao Sok Rainforest is more diverse than the Amazon Rainforest. The lime stone cliffs, amazing amount of wild  life and lush vegetation. Khao Sok even has tree house accommodation which brings you even closer to nature at all  times, one of the must places to see in Thailand.
