Australasia: Winning – beyond both sides of the door

Simply because these are two of the world’s ultimate holiday destinations. And while it is true that the best holiday destinations don’t necessarily make the best incentive venues, primarily for logistical or organisational reasons, Australia and New Zealand truly can claim to have it all.

They are both English-speaking, both eminently accessible, both admirably equipped, both thoroughly professional – and both offer some of the finest venues, sights and activities in the world.

Australia is the lucky Country, blessed with gleaming modern cities, stunning beaches and awesome outback. Everyone wants to visit magical Sydney; experience the traditional arts and artistry of Melbourne; explore the underwater wonderland and island off the Great Barrier Reef; go walkabout in search of exotic wildlife or Aboriginal history and much, much more.

The only question is choosing from a virtually endless list of the best options for your award-winning party. Briefly, Sydney is easily combined with the winelands, mountains and beaches of New South Wales, perhaps adding a side-trip to the nearby capital of Canberra.

Melbourne is combined with trips to old gold rush towns, wildlife sanctuaries and the rural, laid-back pace and history of Tasmania. Brisbane, plus the jazzy Gold or more sedate Sunshine Coasts blend perfectly with the Great Barrier Reef or Kakadu National Park.

Perth combines a bright, go-ahead modern centre with desert wilds, and all four regions dovetail neatly with adventures in the Red Centre and Ayers Rock.

New Zealand is the Land of the Long White Cloud, peaceful by reputation and sportsmad by nature. A choice of two big islands, and lots of small ones, marry uncrowded, elegant cities and Maori folklore with an irresistible lust for the great outdoors.

The scenery of mountains, lakes, forests and beaches is stunning, as are some of the sporting opportunities including white-water rafting, bungee jumping, jet-boating, skiing, climbing, trekking and zorbing – rolling down hills, would you believe, in giant, spiked balls.

New Zealand also spells yachting, boating, fishing, cricket and, of course, all Black rugby. It spells lakeside lodges, country manors, thermal springs, winelands, fruit orchards and wide-open roads.

Both Australia and New Zealand happily arrange special golf incentives without organisational tears. New Zealand alone has an astonishing 400 courses. Both countries are experts in helicopter hops and flight-seeing and both will arrange theme parties as wild and wacky or as glitzy and sophisticated as you like – from lusty campfire cook-outs and sing-alongs to traditional black-tie galas with the champagne flowing in torrents.

Popular in Australia right now are convict theme parties, with participants dressed as prisoners and getting up all sorts of no good in search of forbidden treasures.

New Zealand, for example, can arrange stockman parties on sheep farms, fleets of camper vehicles for wilderness treks or spiritual sessions in Maori villages. Outdoors or indoors, Australia and New Zealand together live up to most visions of the ultimate incentive experience.
