Trekking from Cancun to Guatemala City? (Yucatan and Guatemala)?

I’m planning on traveling for two weeks in August, starting from Cancun making my way to Guatemala city. We are two 22 year old females backpacking together so safety is a concern! So is health…

I’m not sure how to do this exactly… can we get from Cancun to Guatemala City in only two weeks? Should we take buses, if so which kind of buses/companies, do we need to reserve in advance?

Which cities/ places should we go through? We are backpacking, on a budget, wanna get some beach/partying in, some hiking/nature, and lots of archaeology/culture. Which are the safest/most interesting places?

Can we avoid Belize as well, I heard its expensive and not that nice?

Any advice is GREATLY appreciated, Thank you!!

i mean…taking a bus may be very dangerous and as well VERY long.
i’ve taken a bus from Guatemala City to El Estor (near Tikal)
and it very well took a good 7-8 hours..and cancun…atleast 14 hours lol. and a lot of gangs that roam around the border (especially el salvador) also, guatemala does not have nice beaches but for partying and swinging, you must go to puerto barrios, san jose, or livingston, but i warn you, the beaches are all dirty.

so all in all, take a plane. it won’t cost TOO much.
and from Guatemala City, you must go to Anitgua, Atitlan, and Coban, if your want a nice trip.
Antigua is the Colonial City of Guatemala and it’s pretty much safe, if you keep common sense, and a LOT of clubs and bars, and MANY MANY MANY MANY tourists, and you can well learn spanish @ the school for a very satisfying price. Atitlan is one of the most beautiful lakes i have ever been to. It’s very clean and blue, and many restaurants and nice hotels. Also, Coban has Rivers VERY clean waters and interesting caves.
Guatemala is a nice choice because the weather is very nice..maybe the best weather in the world.
August is very much like spring weather, not much rain.
But i suggest you visit a travel agent.
