If we had a Star Trek world with unlimited free energy and matter replication, would we all become?
vegetables because we no longer needed to labor for money? Would we still have people like Michael Jordan? I don’t think that he became a superb athlete just because it was profitable. It may seem to be a fantasy within a Utopian dream, but I see it as a future where our descendants will be trading their artistic works as if they were Valentine Day cards. If this should happen someday and Jesus has not returned as promised, would people start to give up their faith or become agnostic?
The definition of profession involves compensation. It would be an obsolete term.
I think the new descriptor would be act-rest for activity interest .
I don’t think the Star Trek universe ever addressed whether professional athletes existed. Deep Space 9 implied that baseball had pretty much drifted to the way side. I’d like to believe in such a future that intellectualism would be prided and people could study what interested them.
